TWO RARE CELADON PORCELAIN PIERCED INCENSE BURNERS, China, Qing dynasty, Kangxi period (1661-1722)

The larger h. 11,8 cm x d. 14 cm

Pierced and engraved with three large flowers on a flowing foliage covered with a beautiful celadon glaze. The inside and outside of the base are unglazed.

Catalogue notes: The rarity of this 'pair' lies in their size, such that the smaller one fits perfectly inside the larger one, in fact on the inside of the larger one can be seen the imprint left by the smaller one. The pieces were baked inside each other to save space in the oven.

For an identical piece but with aubergine glaze see Christie's, live auction 5295, 'Chinese Ceramics, Works of Art and Textiles', 16 May 2014, London South Kensington, lot. 1332.
