A 'FLAMBE'-GLAZED BRUSH WASHER, China, late 18th century / early 19th century

Beautifully compressed in shape with an inwardly curved rim resting on a wide, raised foot, it is completely covered in a red glaze with violet and bluish hues on the outside, turning into a blue glaze with bluish hues on the inside. The base is covered with a brown glaze.
