A PAIR OF IMARI PORCELAIN VASES, Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912)

h cm 21,5
Finely decorated in a continuous composition featuring a maritime scene, where a vessel sails through choppy seas, adorned in the traditional Imari palette of cobalt blue and iron red underglaze. Onboard, musician sailors enliven the scene with vibrancy and refinement. The decoration continues with gilded overglaze details that further enrich the composition, while in the background, pagodas emerge nestled among clouds and rocky formations. Around the neck, a blue underglaze band is embellished with alternating medallions and auspicious objects. At the base, a square-shaped Imari mark is painted in blue underglaze. With wooden bases.
