The allegory depicts the mythological episode of the Rape of Europa. Case in finely chased gilt and patinated bronze with a bull representing Zeus, ruler of Olympus, and the princess Europa contemplating the divine. Movement replaced in the 19th century, with striking on the hours and half-hours.
