§A VENETIAN WELL IN CARVED ISTRIAN STONE, Venice, late 15th century

Shaped like a composite Corinthian capital, the structure features a molded circular base supporting a cylindrical shaft that widens toward the square top. At the four corners stand vigorous spiral volutes, enriched at the base with finely carved acanthus leaves wrapping around the shaft. On the main face, a shaped heraldic shield is carved in relief.
