With “East to West – From Italian Homes, including a fine selection of Tribal Arts”, Marcopolo Auction presents a sale dedicated to the dialogue between cultures, tastes, and collecting traditions that shaped Italian interiors throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.
A journey through East and West, where decorative arts, furniture, and works of art reflect the encounter between different aesthetics, united by a refined and cosmopolitan sensibility.
The auction brings together works inspired by Japonisme, Chinoiserie, and European Orientalist taste, alongside Grand Tour furnishings, Tribal Arts, and selected examples of both Western and Eastern decorative arts, all chosen with the same care and scholarly attention that have long distinguished Marcopolo Auction’s expertise.
The sale is further enriched by an important collection of garden sculptures and a refined selection of furniture by Carlo Bugatti, emblematic of the eclectic and visionary aesthetic that masterfully combined Moorish, Oriental, and European influences into a unique and unmistakable style.
The East to West – From Italian Homes auction will be divided into two sessions.
The first session will begin at 10:30 CET and will exclusively feature the Tribal Art selection, from lot 1 to lot 103.
The second session will begin at 12:00 CET and will continue with lots 104 to 226, including the garden statues from a Lombard villa, the Bugatti furnishings, and the remainder of the catalogue.
