PAIR OF LARGE COBALT-BLUE PORCELAIN VASES MOUNTED IN FINELY CHASED AND GILT BRONZE, France, late 19th century

h cm 114
The ovoid bodies are decorated on one side with scenes from the Napoleonic campaigns and on the other with bucolic landscapes, signed Poitevin. The gilt-bronze handles are shaped as winged swans amidst foliate motifs and scrolls, flanked by the letter N within a laurel wreath; palmette decoration adorns the necks of the vases, while the covers are surmounted by pinecone finials. The bases are enriched with lyre motifs and intertwined laurel branches forming wreaths. Resting on square pedestals with finely chased gilt-bronze mounts and ferine feet. Red “Mre Imp le de Sevres” marks beneath the covers (covers with restorations).
