A RARE CARVED AMBER DEER IN RECUMBENT POSE, China, 17th century

h. 2.5 cm x l. 8 cm

The deer is shown gracefully resting in a recumbent pose with its legs neatly tucked beneath its head. The head with elongated snout and finely carved details highlighting the edge of the cheek. Its ears are finely carved in oval leaf-like form. The eyes are shown gently closed as if the animal is peacefully resting.  The amber is of rich partially translucent butterscotch tone, a cloud-like matrix to the interior.
