AN IMPORTANT AND RARE IMPERIAL FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN 'DRAGON AND BUTTERFLY' DINNER SERVICE, China, Qing dynasty, Guangxu period (1875-1908)
Comprising 209 pieces: two soup tureens, one sugar bowl, two pitchers, one sauceboat, three large serving dishes, eleven stands, four trays (one with a wavy rim and three straight-sided), twenty-nine dinner plates, twenty-three soup plates, forty-one dessert plates (twenty-four measuring 18 cm in diameter and seventeen measuring 19 cm), twenty-four coffee cups and saucers, seventeen teacups and saucers, and ten sauce dishes.

Decorated with an iron-red five-clawed dragon among butterflies, and with floral scrolls, double gourds, and cartouches containing auspicious objects and flowers. The reverse is decorated with large floral scrolls. The center of the base bears a four-character iron-red mark, Qing Hua Zhen Pin (清華珍品).

正面饰以矾红团龙纹,龙纹为五爪，是皇权的象征，矾红发色鲜亮，龙身鳞甲刻画细致，是典型的清代宫廷龙纹样式。龙纹周围绘满了形态各异的粉彩蝴蝶纹，色彩丰富，盘沿描金，尽显华贵，蝴蝶环绕，并有葫芦,桃子，灵芝，柿子，如意，兰花，卷草纹，等等纹饰，背面饰以大型卷草纹。底款为“清华珍品”，这是晚清光绪时期非常特殊的款识，多与慈禧太后的“储秀宫”或皇家园林之“清华园”相关，属于官用瓷器，并非普通民窑款。从胎釉、彩料和纹饰风格判断，这套餐具属于光绪时期（1875-1908）的制品，是晚清宫廷用瓷的典型代表。
